Even though the man hasn’t been in a wrestling ring for years, I have to talk a little about Brock Lesnar. He will return to the Octagon this coming weekend after nearly an eight month absence due to illness. This is not a storyline that was concocted for the UFC, the man was legitimately sick and we shall see if he has what it takes for this comeback. The man is a beast in any ring he gets into and to watch him fight is amazing, I’m hoping he continues to win in the UFC, only time will tell. This brings me to a point about how to make a success out of someone we hardly knew when he first came onto the scene in professional wrestling. When Brock came out, he was an unstoppable force that decimated anyone and everyone that got in his way. But there was a difference, he had a mouthpiece, so to speak with Paul Heyman. With having a person on the microphone that had the ability to rile up the fans and to know what to say, it only helped Lesnar to climb the ranks of the federation quite quickly. We aren’t seeing that anymore in the WWE. To me having a manager only helped past wrestlers get over with the fans and to help with the storyline to make it more interesting to watch. You had to love Captain Lou Albano, Classy Freddie Blassie, Bobby “The Brain” Heenan, the loud mouth Jimmy Hart, Mr. Fuji and his cane (and salt of course), as well as Slick, Elizabeth, Paul Ellering, Paul Bearer, Jim Cornette, JJ Dillion, the list could go on and on. I don’t see why the federation doesn’t do something like this anymore, it could only help to make the storylines richer and to bring in more ratings.I will be changing my style a little bit for this column. Instead of breaking up my different thoughts on each item into different paragraphs there will be one main paragraph for the general topic. So you will see the two main topics of the two federations that I watch-TNA and WWE. If this is too packed tell me your thoughts and things can be changed in future columns. Now onto TNA and my thoughts (or however you want to put it) on them (don’t worry, WWE will be after this): Ric Flair is making a stable and it’s called----Fortune. I’m not sure what to think about them at the moment except to say, Flair needs to stay retired. The other wrestlers in the group are worth watching, but one other person on the team just needs to keep his shirt on-you know who you are. With Tommy Dreamer’s return to wrestling it probably garners an ECW return of sorts seeing as how he has Raven and Stevie Richards by his side and it doesn’t hurt that Taz is there as well as RVD. I always like ECW, not the fiasco that McMahon turned it into. So maybe having a stable with these former E’s will be good. And speaking of ECW, with Abyss’s heel turn I have to think the only man that could possibly be of any worth to come back on the scene would be Paul Heyman-which means the E’s would be working for him and the main reason Abyss did what he has done so far. Can’t fault TNA for having one of the best Tag Team divisions out there. These guys put it all on the line every time they come to the ring, no matter what team they are. I am continually amazed how good the division is. It also brings me to the women’s division for TNA. Aside for a couple of not so great lady wrestlers, this division outdoes WWE’s by 100 to 1. I can actually watch a Women’s TNA match without turning the channel. You would think WWE would figure this one out, but they haven’t. It’s all about how big of a chest the ladies have (not that that’s bad or anything) and how good they look-to hell with wrestling abilities. Oh well…ratings are ratings, right? Now onto Raw and my thoughts of the show: Rob Zombie was guest host……I guess this guest host thing continues (already one year has gone by), much to my utmost objections. It’s time to put it to rest and be done with it. By order of the new General Manager, Nexus wasn’t allowed to touch any WWE Superstar, or they would be let go. And pretty much the same goes for the Superstars except they would be suspended. I guess to make us hate them even more, Nexus had to beat up some legends of the wrestling ring including Michael Hayes, Arn Anderson, Dean Malenko, Mike Rotundo, Jerry Lawler, and Ricky Steamboat. Steamboat got the brunt of the attack when all of Nexus attacked hm in the ring. And apparently because they aren’t active wrestlers, Nexus could do this. Where could they go with this storyline though if no one can attack anyone else? This is getting stranger and stranger, but I will continue to watch to see what happens next. Still can’t get into the Women’s division…even the crowd was dead for the match that they put on, does this say anything about this particular division? It needs help. Bring in Awesome Kong, she ain’t much to look at, but she sure put on a hell of a show when she was in the ring in the TNA. The main event of the night was having all 8 guys that will in the MITB Ladder Match PPV. A tag match to get all of them in the ring was the only thing to do so it became Jericho, The Miz, Edge, and Dibiase vs. Morrison, Bourne, Truth, and Orton. I could tear the match apart, but really I thought it was pretty good. I especially liked Jericho and his cockiness in the ring and how he played to the crowd-classic. Is it me or is Edge a lot smaller than he’s ever been? Will Orton win, or will the WWE give it to Jericho? MITB might be worth watching, although it’s too soon to tell. One other thing, what are your thoughts on who the next General Manager is? Do you think WWE even has an idea who it will be? Or will they milk this for as long as they can just like the guest host thing. Just to clarify, if I could get ROH or any other wrestling where I live, I would watch them. But near as I can tell, where I’m at, I can’t. So if you have any ideas how I would be able to see these other wrestling shows, I am more then willing to check them out. (by the way, youtube only has so many videos-I want something up to date) That’s my 3 cents worth, til next time……
