Can you smell the pyro? Can you feel the breath of the fans behind you, on your neck, as you look into the eyes of the biggest, baddest men on the planet? Is your heart skipping beats, as the intro music plays? Well, maybe not yet, but me thinks you will soon be experiencing those sensations. Total overload. Because . . . because . . . the Second World Wrestling War is about to start. WWWII. Who will play Truman and drop the big one? Does Vince have enough gas, in his 64-year old tank, to stop the TNA Originals, plus the Babe Ruth of Wrestling? Or do the fans of rasling only want spectacle? Is Johnny Sixpack ready for a revolution? Or does he only want production values?Because production values is mostly what he gets from Vince and the boys up north. Let me make it clear, if I have not already, that I am not a fan of the current WWE roster. I know that Cena and Orton have much talent . . . and have had pushes to match. I know we all want and need the new blood. But what about personality? If it is just entertainment, as Vince says, fine. But let us be entertained already. The old guys still pop. Hogan and Flair still cut the best promos in the business. Hands down. I don't cringe when they speak. I cannot say the same for some. Let Vince and Hogan and the boys throw down. They are the professionals, after all. But let us have a real fight this time. Let us see the best of both companies. And let us not get watered down, WCW light. You know, that low carb, low fat crap. Am I asking too much? Probably. But what should the average fan ask? It is not the fan, after all, that is buying the Pay-per-views . . . that is going to the shows and watching on TV and buying the merchandise? Remember that Eric. Remember that Hulk. Remember that Vince. Now let me bring in those thoughts that garnered for me this column. Watching the main event on Impact, a few weeks back, I couldn't help but get the old ECW Arena vibe. If Hogan and company still know the business, and I think they do, then they are going to have to stay in the Impact Zone. That being said, they might as well use what assets they've got and strengthen the X-division. Could you imagine them bringing in former ECW talent? Real ECW talent? And with the ECW brand Dead? And why they are at it, they could bring in Heyman and RVD. They are bringing in everyone else! Also . . . Driving home the other day, the idea of a WWE legends championship came to mind. Yes, I know this has been done, most recently in TNA, but hear me out. I think it would be a great coup to have Vince McMahon come out after his Wrestlemania match with Bret “Hitman” Hart, and award the Excellence Of Execution a newly commissioned Legends Championship belt. This would not only be a great way to honor the Hitman, but would also be a way to have Bret call out old rivals like Hulk Hogan and Shawn Michaels and Bill Goldberg. The shock value alone would be immense, and not to mention the boost it would give the young talent, to get the older stars out of the way. Just think about it, all the old favorites could wrestle in their own division, with their own feuds, and all the younger stars could headline. Ego, history, and potential would all be taken care of. And, for the hell of it, you could have some of the younger stars come out, claiming to already be legends (I'm thinking Randy Orton) and challenge the real legends for the Legends Title. And, of course, the legends could form factions and start feuds with the younger stars. New Blood versus Millionaires Club part II. I am trying to get better at this and want thank you for your patience. I will take some time off to compose my next set of musings FROM THIS FAN'S CORNER. And please remember, don't hate the player, hate the game. S. David Jones is author of Nothing Ventured, Nothing Lost.
