 Winter's Storm-Extreme??
Column Posted by Trev Winters on 7:24:17 PM Jun 7, 2009

I feel lonely around here, it seems as if quite a few of the writers have decided to take time away from writing their articles. Maybe it’s because of the lack of interest in the profession right now and the pooe interesting storylines to boot. I’m not sure though. Even if things stink up the joint, I will be writing about wrestling, whether it be about the WWE or TNA. Sorry, I have no interest in ROH at the moment. I am sure they are great though. Maybe more towards Autumn I will have time to discover what ROH is all about. Now onto Winter’s Storm…

Rundown and Thoughts on Extreme Rules PPV

WWE Champion Randy Orton vs. Batista (Steel Cage Match)
The shock of the night…Batista winning the championship against Orton. He used the Batista Bomb to get the pin. It was a typically blah match as far as I’m concerned. I was actually hoping Orton was going to win. I have a feeling this will be the beginning of a Batista heel turn very shortly.

Intercontinental Champion Rey Mysterio vs. Chris Jericho (No Holds Barred Match)
Now that was a match. Mysterio misses with the 619 and loses the match. I was surprised to see Mysterio lose the championship. Besides that he also lost his mask after Jericho ripped it off of him. I figured the WWE was going to let this feud go for awhile longer and have Jericho win later during the summer. Now that the mask was ripped off of Mysterio, I’m sure this won’t be the end of the feud between the two. Having a mask for a Lucha Libra taken off his face is sacrilegious so this won’t stand with Rey. Great match.

CM Punk vs. Umaga (Samoan Strap Match)
I’m glad that Punk won this match. I hope this is the start of a great run for the guy. With having the MITB I expect the guy with it to win many matches and not get squashed as he has been with Umaga. (see Edge and Hardy match for more). All in all it was an alright match, maybe I’m just being too critical because Umaga needs to show me more in the ring.

World Heavyweight Champion Edge vs. Jeff Hardy (Ladder Match)
Hell of a match between the two with Hardy winning the darn thing. But there was a swerve, Punk comes running out at the end of the match and cashes in his MITB. With Hardy being exhausted from his match, Punk hits the Go To Sleep to Hardy’s face and he is out, PUNK is the World Champion!!!! I knew this match was going to be the match of the night. Perfect swerve and a great ladder match. Maybe this means Jeff will be taking that time off that they have been taking about for awhile now.

Miss WrestleMania Vickie Guerrero vs. Santina Marella (Hog Pen Match)
Comedy “match” of the night. Did you really expect there was going to be wrestling in this thing? It turned out to be a handicap “match” with Chavo joining Vickie. Chavo was the one that took care of Santina for most of the time then he tagged in Vickie thinking she would easily take the pin against Santina. Nope, Santina used the bucket of slop on Chavo’s head and pinned Vickie to once again be Miss Wrestlemania again, ugh…I guess my hopes as far as Santina being a memory are ill-conceived. I don’t mind Santino at all, I am just tired of this goofy thing that is Santina. Oh well, there are worse things the WWE is and has done.

United States Champion Kofi Kingston vs. MVP vs. William Regal vs. Matt Hardy (Fatal Four Way Match)
This wasn’t a bad match, but it could have been a lot better. These guys if given enough time to show us what they had would have done much better then they did tonight. In the end Kofi Kingston is still the United States Champion. I was hoping to either see Matt or William win this one, but it didn’t happen.

John Cena vs. Big Show (Submission Match)
Sorry to say this, but I didn’t really care who won this match. Maybe it’s me, but I am tired of both of these wrestlers. Yes I know Cena sells a ton of merchandise and Show is, well, a big man. But that doesn’t matter much to me. I would rather have watched paint dry then to have suffered through this match. These two need to move on to someone else to feud with and just call it a day. Oh yeah, Cena won, imagine that.

ECW Champion Christian vs. Jack Swagger vs. Tommy Dreamer (Triple Threat Hardcore Rules Match)
It’s about time Dreamer wins this title. I was beginning to wonder whether the WWE was going to just let him go off into the sunset without it. Thing is he didn’t pin Christian for it, so look for Christian and Dreamer to go against one another for this thing soon. First good move this federation has done in a long time, but I am willing to bet he won’t have it very long.

Final thought:
Lots of title changes again for this PPV. One will be short lived I am sure, another will see a face become a heel real soon and another will hopefully be one of extended length, unlike his last run. Lets hope the WWE gives Punk time to show us what he’s got and gives him a decent storyline run with the title. Cena will probably move on from Show and Kofi will continue to do battle with one or all of the men he faced tonight. Who knows what they will do with Orton now that he doesn’t have the title. I figured he was just coming into his own with it, guess I was wrong. Oh well…

And now for something completely different:

I had a look at the CZW (Combat Zone Wresting) federation after seeing a report on what happened to one of their wrestlers over the weekend. If Ric Flair thought Mick Foley was a glorified stuntman I wonder what he would say about these guys. Idiots? Morons? Dumba##es? If you like to see men getting hit with fluorescent bulbs and everything else you can find in a hardware store, you would love this crap. If you like to see skin being peeled away from another human being’s body with tons of blood squirting everywhere, this federation is for you. This was federation isn’t for me, I’m one that likes good old fashioned wrestling with high flying maneuvers and complex moves without the blood. Blood just isn’t needed in my opinion. Now there were many matches without blood, but not many. These guys would jump from 20 foot areas of the arena onto the other wrestlers and smack one another with chairs. It was mayhem to say the least. But in the end, I couldn’t turn away. Screw storylines, these guys just go out and annihilate one another in each and every match. ECW?? Yeah right, now it’s CZW, these guys are crazy, ridiculously stupid, manical, and apparently love what they do. One word comes to mind, CRAZY!! But you won’t get me to watch it all the time, unless of course I crave seeing someone getting hit in the head with a fluorescent bulb…

That’s my 3 cents worth, til next time…..
