It must go without saying that there isn’t much to talk about in wrestling these days. I say this because there was a time not too long ago that even this part of TWNP was filled with many articles week in and week out. Now we are lucky to have a couple columns a week if even that. What does this say about the state of wrestling? I think you can figure that one out on your own. The big word that can be used in this case is: NOTHING!! Nothing of importance is happening in wrestling right now. Sure you have the “million dollar giveaway” coming up on Monday June 9th. Which if you have read what it is all about is you don’t just get the million, they are dividing it up into smaller increments so “more” people can win. Here are the prices as listed on the WWE site:
Prizes: One (1) prize, consisting of two-hundred fifty thousand dollars ($250,000 USD) to be awarded in the form of a check. Two (2) prizes, each consisting of two-hundred thousand dollars ($200,000 USD) to be awarded in the form of a check. One (1) prize consisting of one-hundred twenty five thousand dollars ($125,000 USD) to be awarded in the form of a check. One prize consisting of ninety-eight thousand dollars ($98,000 USD) to be awarded in the form of a check. One (1) prize consisting of seventy-five thousand dollars ($75,000 USD) to be awarded in the form of a check. One (1) prize consisting of fifty-one thousand nine hundred ninety-eight dollars ($51,998 USD) to be awarded in the form of a check. Odds of winning any prize depend on the number of eligible entries received during the Registration Phase up to five (5) minutes prior to the time selected by Sponsor for awarding that particular prize (that prize’s “Prize Pool”). Limit: One (1) Prize per person. The order prizes are actually awarded during the Event Phase shall be determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion.
It all goes to show that this contest isn’t really one million dollars in whole, just in part. You also have to watch the show on Monday in order to get a secret code so “if” someone from the show does call you, you know what the secret code is to win the prize that they are giving away at that time. This is what McMahon has stooped to in order for better ratings, a ploy in giving away money when he should be using that extra money to hire a better writing team to liven up all three of his shows. One million dollars could get some good writers in the fold so that in the long run WWE has better ratings hence more money in their pockets. But with Vince being Vince, his idea is to get one week of better ratings (he hopes) and then deal with next week when it comes around and hope the ratings will be there in a stupid storyline that he comes up with, which just isn’t happening.
Batista looks to be getting back into the title picture, maybe. It’s for a future title match against Edge. The thing is, it is rumored that Batista is going to Raw, so you pretty much have to bet that this feud he is having with Edge won’t last too long if he is in fact going to Raw. I don’t understand why Vince thinks having Edge as champ is such a great idea. To me he is getting quite stale and they need to go in a different direction altogether. It was thought that they were going to give the Undertaker a long title run, apparently that has been thrown to the wayside and we will have to endure Vicki and Edge going into July, ugh. You have to admit, Vicki is one that grates on you like fingers on a chalkboard. She is one annoying person and it looks as if she is doing her job and that is being annoying and a huge heel in the federation. As I look at the superstars in the Smackdown roster, there is no standout to take the title from Edge except the Undertaker, so be that as it may, Edge will be the man for awhile.
Over at Raw we have (as one of my readers has stated) a re-hash of the HHH and Cena feud. In my last column I stated I wasn’t looking forward to this, I still stand behind that opinion. I like Cena, I really do (and so does Mickie James apparently in a real-life relationship outside of the ring-yes it is true folks) but having Cena going against HHH has been done, lets have something different, PLEASE!! Call me silly, but HHH vs. Jeff Hardy for the title would be a lot better. Yes Jeff messed up, he had his suspension of 60 days and maybe now he got his s**t together. In my opinion it’s time to give him a real try, the crowd loves the guy and he does put on a hell of a show. I am betting the WWE is gun-shy putting Hardy into such a prestigious spot where all eyes would be on him, but in order to put butts in the seats and ratings on the television show, they need to do something different and this something is Jeff Hardy going after the WWE Heavyweight Championship that HHH holds right now. The time for Cena has passed. It is now time for something new and to do that you have to risk putting Hardy out there for a real title run this time.
I am also for a Ted Dibiase, Jr. and Cody Rhodes (heel turn) tag team with either daddy Diabiase being the manager or Ric Flair introducing the two as his new tag team as part of Flair Inc. Then the next week introduce more to his stable and have this go on for at least a month. Have the stable of men be younger guys that Flair brings up and shows them the ropes to be the stand alone stable in the federation. Why not call it, "Flair Incorporated" and have 4 guys along with a tag team that makes it into a true stable of 6 guys that Flair manages. Now that would be something to watch. But Vince didn’t come up with the idea so he wouldn’t do it cause he needs to be the one that had the idea first...
That’s my 3 cents worth, til next time...
