Summertime and nothing is on except WWE on cable. Is this worth the fans time to watch or do something else with one’s time? I give you this opinion after watching Monday Night Raw the June 2nd edition. It might not have a slim chance of working, but only a slim chance. Why would I say this? Well, here comes the rundown if you missed the show: The first match of the night was Umaga versus Kennedy (after 20 minutes of talk between HHH, Cena, and Hardy that is-more on that later)…I’m not sure what they are trying to do with Umaga because I had thought they were going with an unstoppable monster storyline for the guy, I guess they changed their minds. Anyways, he was counted out of the ring after Kennedy jumped on him from the ring and into the announce table-the excuse was that Umaga was injured from last night, so he wasn’t at 100 percent. Hence not being able to reach the ring before the count of ten. Sad...they are also having Paul Burchill go against Kennedy in a program that might last awhile, it might have a good possibility of working if the storyline isn’t messed up. Lets wait and see on this one.
The million dollar giveaway, to me it is a ratings ploy nothing else...the chances of winning are astronomical so it really isn’t worth talking about...next please...
At the top of the program HHH came out talking how he stopped Orton, yippee for him, looks like Orton gets his time off that he wanted. Anyways, Cena comes out saying he wants a shot at the title then Jeff Hardy comes out to say he thinks he deserves the shot as well. A match between Cena and Hardy is made for later in the evening to see who goes against HHH at the Night of the Champions PPV at the end of the month...
Santino Marella and Carlito vs. The tag team champions Cody Rhodes and Hardcore Holly is next in line for only the second match of the evening and we are already 40 minutes into the show, Roddy Piper is introduced as the “official time keeper” of the match. You have to like when Marella is wrestling, at least he puts on a good show. Piper interfered in the match to try to screw up Marella, but it didn’t quite work the way he wanted. Holly got pinned in the middle of the ring after Carlito kicked him and Marella pinned Holly. How long are Holly and Rhodes going to keep the belts anyway? I think it’s time to give them to someone other tag team that are a bit more entertaining to watch. By the way, where did Murdoch and Cade disappear to? Oh by the way, it might just be good to have Ted Dibiase Jr. in the race as a tag team contender as well…Hmmm could be interesting, who will be his tag team partner? In three weeks we will know.
Chris Jericho versus JBL for the Intercontinental Championship is up. JBL gets disqualified when he grabs a chair on the outside to get him a lose. A whole lot of nothing and a classic WCW ending in my opinion. Lets move onto to something different with these two shall we?
Beth Phoenix and Katie Lea vs. Melina and Mickie James, pretty good match believe it or not. I guess Melina is now a face and working with Mickie James in squabbles and matches. Katie gets her first pin in the federation. After the match was done, Paul Burchill comes out clapping to congratulate Katie, but then Kennedy blindsides him with a clothesline from behind, throws him in the ring and proceeds to pound the crap out of Burchill. Burchill escapes. This might just be a decent rivalry between Burchill and Kennedy.
Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch is up next (so there they are). The crowd was dead throughout the match and Cade wins with a pinfall to Murdoch. I can’t believe the WWE are going through with this. No one really cares about these two when they are wrestling separately. Heed my words as I’ve said before, give it a year and they will be together again as a tag team, cause who really gives a hoot about these two?
Now that was a pretty good match with Cena and Hardy. The crowd was electric, the highs and the lows of the match were great. You have to admit these guys put on the show of the night. It’s about time something like that happened, it’s been a long time in coming that’s for sure. But of course with the win by Cena it sets up a match with him and HHH at the Night of Champions. Do we really want to see this match up again? I don’t. Why not throw Hardy into the mix? He puts on a heck of a performance every time he is in the ring. I suppose they don’t want to put him into the title run too soon considering he just returned from suspension. But to watch another PPV with HHH and Cena? I just don’t see too many buyrates for this one.
What’s your opinion on this and other match ups for the summer? Are they good ones or would you come up with something different? Will the draft really help the federation? How about this million dollar giveaway, farce or not? Shoot me an e-mail and give me your opinions.
That’s my 3 cents worth, til next time...
